The filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi is seriously ailing with cancer. She has been under treatment for a while and is now hospitalised. Her kidneys are also damaged and require dialysis, a costly recurring procedure.
However Lajmi is not very well off financially and so a number of people from Bollywood have come out in aid. They include Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karan Johar, Rohit Shetty and more. But an unexpected name was also among them in Alia Bhatt and she took upon herself much of the costs Lajmi would incur as she continues her treatment. Alia’s mother Soni Razdan told a media outlet that her daughter had known Lajmi since she was a little girl and had therefore decided to do what was necessary to get her treated.
In an interview that Lajmi gave to an online magazine, she said that Alia and her parents have consistently been helping during her present troubles. She also said that since it was not fair for just one person to do all the spending for what would be a prolonged treatment, she hoped others in the film fraternity would come forward to share the costs.
