The Qatar Airways flight to Doha from Thiruvananthapuram was diverted to Goa International Airport in India on Saturday as its pilot had fallen ill, the airline said in a travel alert.
The “medical diversion” to Goa occurred nearly one hour and forty minutes after departure from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, Qatar Airways said.
“As per Qatar Airways procedure in these instances, the aircraft (QR507) was diverted to the nearest airport, Goa International Airport, where our well trained first officer landed the aircraft safely shortly before 7am local time. The safety, comfort and wellbeing of our passengers and crew are our utmost priority, and we have sent a relief aircraft to Goa to accommodate all passengers on a new flight to Doha, which is due to land in Doha at 5-30pm local time."
