Rohit Shetty must be a relieved man now. He had an unbeatable record of blockbusters till 2015 when Dilwale ended up as a flop despite having Shah Rukh Khan and Varun Dhawan in it. It took him two years to release Golmaal Again and another dud would have been disastrous, especially given the movie’s scale and budget.
But it seems that all those apprehensions were for nothing. Because Golmaal Again started clocking big numbers as soon as it hit the screens and in a week had easily managed to do well over Rs100 crore. And it is still running and with still some way to go it has been acknowledged to be a true blue hit, and Rohit therefore comes out of it with his reputation intact.
In one interview he said that the movie would have been an even bigger hit if it didn’t have to share screens with Aamir Khan’s Secret Superstar. As to the reviews panning the movie, he spoke of not being bothered or even reading them. Instead, what he looks at is the audience’s response and they seem to have spoken firmly in his favour. Meanwhile, Secret Superstar has done just about average business at below Rs50 crore. But it was a small budget movie by Aamir standards and he would be content at its reception.
SUCCESSFUL: The film director says Golmaal Again would have been a bigger hit, if it did not have to share screen with Secret Superstar.
