The sale of local farm produce at the sixth season of the Qatari vegetable yards, organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, kicked off on Thursday in Al Mazrouah, Al Khor-Dhakhira and Al Wakrah with the participation of 80 Qatari farms.
Head of agricultural affairs department at the ministry, Adel al-Kaldi, said the current season includes more produce and a larger number of participating farmers as well as nearly 12 different fruit and vegetable types, some of which are organic.
Al-Kaldi said the ministry offered support to the Qatari farmers to increase local produce by providing seeds, equipment, advice and agricultural guidance.

The markets are open every week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

He added that in line with the ministry's keenness to support Qatari produce, a temporary agricultural yard is being planned to be opened by January in the cultural district of Katara. Additionally, a study is being conducted to host a festival of local produce at Souq Waqif.
General supervisor of the market, Abdul Rahman al-Sulaiti, said that in the current season there are 34 participants from Al Mazrouah, 24 from Al Khor, 22 from Al Wakrah.
Through these markets, the ministry aims to improve the marketing of local Qatari products, help farmers to promote their produce, and provide fresh local produce at lower cost.
The markets are open every week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 4am to 5pm, whereas the livestock market and animal feed stores in Al Mazrouah continue to operate throughout the week during the same hours.
