Rashid al-Amri won the feature class event on the opening day of the
first leg of the Hathab Equestrian Tour series, which kicked off at the
Al Shaqab arena yesterday. Al-Amri and his grey stallion Canavaro de
Muze ET came home in 60.2 seconds to clinch the Open Class - One round
against the clock 115/125 cm event. Al-Amri took home QR3,750 for his
effort.
The race for the top spot was a tight one as Mohamed Said
Haidan (Corrado’s Coriana) came home second, just 0.34 seconds behind
al-Amri’s time. In third place was Hamad Nasser al-Qadi with his bay
Jazly with a timing of 66.16 seconds. In the 100/115cm ‘Small Class’,
Mohamed al-Marri (Gin Tonic Van De Kranenburg) topped the time sheets to
clinch the event. Al-Marri was the fastest in the field by almost two
seconds as he cantered in 49.90. Mohamed al-Baker (Looping 46) and
Mohamed Taleb al-Saaq (Diamond Delemma) finished second and third
respectively.
Today, the action will begin at 9 in the morning and
at 2 in the afternoon. Aimed at finding and nurturing young talent, the
new 12-leg showjumping series carries total prize money of QR1mn with
the events spread across seven months. A brainchild of HE Sheikh Joaan
bin Hamad al-Thani, the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, the
series is being conducted jointly by Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF)
and Al Shaqab.
