Woqod Vehicle Inspection Company (Fahes) inspects one million vehicles of different sizes and types a year, with an annual increase rate of 8%.
Eid Mohamed al-Kubaisi, general director of Fahes, told local Arabic daily Arrayah that the number of vehicles inspected by Fahes annually has grown manifold since the company started the process.
Currently, Fahes has 36 inspection lines and tracks that are set to multiply in the future with the opening of new technical inspection stations.
Al-Kubaisi pointed out that Fahes has currently three stations in the design stage and it is expected to start the construction process early next year. They are expected to be functional by the end of 2018.
These stations include Al Mazrouah with 12 lines, which is designated for mid-size and heavy vehicles as well as equipment; Muaither with four lines designated for light vehicles; and Mawater City with four lines.
The official expected that with the introduction of these stations, the work capacity of the company would increase by around 60-70%.
In addition, work is going on to convert two mobile stations into fixed ones. One of these would be located at Salwa Road near the trucks weighing station number three, and the second near Woqod fuel station at the entrance of Mesaieed City.
Regarding the technical inspection fees, al-Kubaisi affirmed there is no intention to increase them currently.
The three new Fahes stations at Al Sheehaniyah, Al Khor and Al Wukair are functioning on an experimental basis in preparation for the impending official launch. Al Sheehaniyah and Al Wukair stations have four lines each for light vehicles. Al Khor station includes three lines for light vehicles and one for trucks. The launch of the three stations is expected to ease the workload of the Fahes station at the Industrial Area by 50%.
