As
racing action heated up in Chantilly, France, for the Qatar Prix de
l’Arc de Triomphe this past weekend, the Qatar Racing and Equestrian
Club (QREC) organised some family entertainment at Souq Waqif on
Saturday and Sunday.
Families were able to enjoy pony rides, face
painting and a photo booth to capture their memories of the day while
enjoying the races live on the screens.
One of the biggest racing
events in the world, it is being sponsored by Qatar since 2008. The
weekend boasts a prestigious two-day racing programme with no fewer than
15 flat races, nine of which have Group 1 status, the highest category
of horse race.
The past weekend was also an opportunity to watch
Purebred Arabians in action; these elegant horses contested in the Qatar
Arabian World Cup, the second leg of the Doha Triple Crown.
In its
previous editions, the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe has witnessed
major Qatari achievements, chief among them Al Shaqab Racing’s Treve,
who won the prestigious feature for two straight years — 2013 and 2014.
The
event at Souq Waqif simulated the atmosphere of the racecourse in
Chantilly and the audience enjoyed the live broadcast of the races on
the screen, as well as all the other fun activities.
“Qatar Prix de
l’Arc de Triomphe is an integral part of our proud commitment to
promoting Qatar as a world class hub for horse racing and a leader in
the pure Arabian breed. This event is an opportunity to share our
passion with the local community and cements our efforts in bringing the
joy of racing and breeding to the wider public,” QREC general manager
Nasser Sherida al-Kaabi said.
QREC represents, promotes and advances
equine and equestrian initiatives from grassroots programmes to the
international arena. Focused on equestrian sport and horse welfare, QREC
is dedicated to promoting Qatar as a world class hub for horse racing.
