Qatar reiterates commitment to promote research and innovation

HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahid Al Hammadi underlined the State of Qatar's commitment to build a society that is based on diversification and sustainability, and one that promotes education, innovation and scientific research.

Addressing a Round Table on the role of science, technology and creativity in the future of communities, on the sidelines of the 14th Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum, HE the Minister discussed the latest concept of "Society 5.0".

HE Al Hammadi further reiterated Qatar's eagerness to equip the youth with education and research, and to find young leaders who are able to contribute building a sustainable society.

HE Al Hammadi confirmed the State of Qatar's commitment to build a diversified and sustainable economy, in order to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030 and meet the directives of His Highness the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

HE the Minister highlighted the State's keenness on developing national industries and products, employing modern technologies in all fields, enabling youth with education and research and finding young leaders who can contribute to the building a sustainable society.

Qatar faces a number of obstacles in providing water resources, sustainable energy in addition to secure technology, and is aware that only innovation and creativity can overcome these obstacles, said HE the Minister.

His Excellency referred to the efforts Qatar is making in merging future science with the practical and theoretical aspects in the curriculum in order to prepare the students to join the various career paths, achieve their aspirations.  

1410 researches were done in Qatar University in 2016, 52% higher than in 2014. QU has also established 15 scientific research centers to serve the society, including centers for biomedical research, advanced materials, energy and sustainability, pointed out HE the Minister.

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe inaugurated 14th Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum at the Kyoto International Conference Center on Sunday. Qatar's delegation was headed by HE Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahid Al Hammadi

The three-day forum is attended by 31 different education, technology and scientific research ministers from around the world.

Held annually in Japan, the Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum aims to provide a mechanism for open discussions and to build a human network that would resolve the problems stemming from the application of science and technology. The forum will explore the opportunities arising from science and technology, and address how to remove the barriers to using science and technology to solve the problems facing humankind.
