An 11/66kv 80mw electricity sub-station with multi-level car parking facility was opened in the city's busy Al Ghanim area on Sunday.

The station, known as New Grand Hamad Electricity Sub-station is located next to the Al Ghanim Bus Station. The parking facility is expected to cater to the requirements of a considerably large number of commercial and residential properties of the densely populated area, at the heart of Doha.
While speaking to journalists after a formal inspection of the facility, Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) president Issa bin Hilal al-Kuwari said the QR155mn sub-station, is one of Kahramaa's new and upcoming sub-stations with multi-level car parking. The latest is the third facility of its kind, operated by Kahramaa.

The new station, which is part of the ongoing 13th phase of the QR7bn works, is vital as it would generate additional car parking facility for one of the busiest areas of Doha. It is learnt that the facility, in the proximity of many of the city's souqs, has no less than 250 car parking slots on its six floors.
The sub-station, which has been equipped with high quality equipment from Germany is on the ground floor.
Al-Kuwari informed that Kahramaa would equip some of its new stations being executed in the ongoing phase of expansion with similar car parking facilities and also with provision for storing rain water.
The work of upgrading and also opening of the new sub-stations of the 13th phase would get over by the first quarter of 2019. Many of the new stations would be ready for opening next year, said Kahramaa President.
While expressing happiness at the opening of the sub-station with car parking at the heart of Doha, director of Traffic Engineering and Safety in the Ministry of Interior Brigadier Mohamed al-Marafia hoped people coming to such areas as Grand Hamad Street would avail of the new parking facility.
The car parking would be provided free for the customers until they get familiarised with the facility, said Kahramaa president. After some time, Kahramaa would consider to impose a nominal fee for parking, he said.
