The Indian embassy has received 47 complaints on various issues at its monthly open house sessions so far this year, it was informed.

Of these, 33 complaints have been resolved while 14 are being followed up, the embassy said in a statement.

Thursday's open house was the ninth of the year.

The grievances brought to the notice of the embassy by members of the Indian expatriate community related to issues of delayed

payment of wages and violations of contract terms and conditions.

Indian ambassador P Kumaran, third secretary (Labour & Community Welfare) Dr M Aleem and other officials met all the complainants, discussed their problems in detail and assured them of the embassy’s active follow-up of their cases with the authorities concerned in the Government of Qatar.

An embassy team visited the Central Prison and Deportation Centre earlier this week. The total number of Indian nationals in the Central Prison and Deportation Centre currently is 206 and 81, respectively.

The embassy has issued 64 Emergency Certificates this month to Indian nationals for their repatriation, It also issued 19 air tickets to needy Indian nationals for their return to India in August.

During September, the embassy has organised four consular camps in the Salwa, Mesaieed, Al Khor and Dukhan/Zekreet areas and rendered 107 consular services to Indian nationals.

The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), the community association working under the aegis of the embassy for the welfare of Indian workers, organised a medical camp on September 22. Around 400 low-paid workers of different nationalities benefited from free medical consultation, health check-ups and medicines.

ICBF supports the efforts of the embassy and helps Indian workers through various welfare measures, including supply of foodstuff, transport support and medical assistance.

ICBF officials Davis Edakulathur, president; Babu Rajan, vice-president; and Mahesh Gowda, general secretary, as well as some other members of the ICBF management committee also attended the proceedings.
