QNB Stars League side Al Sadd are hopeful that last season’s leading scorer Bagdad Bounjah will be fit and ready for their round two match against Al Sailiya on Friday evening. The Algerian attacker was a noticeable absentee in his side’s shock 1-2 opening day defeat to Al Markhiya, after picking up an injury during Al Sadd’s win over Al Duhail in the Sheikh Jassim Cup. Coaching staff will now start to prepare Bounjah for the match at the Al Arabi stadium. In other news, Al Sadd have resumed training in preparation for their round two match against Al Sailiya. Jesualdo Ferreira’s side will be aiming to register their first points of the season against the Peregrines.

Qatargas U-23 League kicks off
The 2017-18 season of the Qatargas U-23 League kicked off on Monday with three matches. The first match was between Duhail and Al Markhiya at Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium. In the second match, Al Rayyan took on Al Kharaitiyat at Soud bin Abdulrahman Stadium, while the third match was between Al Sadd and Qatar SC. Al Duhail scored a massive 6-0 victory over Al Markhiya. Sayed Hassan Issa and Hazem Ahmed scored braces while Ahmed Sbaie and Abdullah al-Ahraq scored a goal each. In the second match, Ahmed al-Saadi scored a hat-trick as Al Rayyan beat Al Kharaitiyat 5-2. Muwafaq Awad and Sultan al-Hajri added one goal each for Al Rayyan while, Abdul Hadi Aman pulled two back for Al Kharaitiyat. In the third game, Al Sadd and Qatar SC played out a 3-3 draw. Al Sadd’s goals were scored by Jassim al-Shammari (two goals) and Ghassan Waheed (one goal), while Ali al-Mohannadi and Ali Awad scored for Qatar SC.

Qatar Handball League starts October 2
The Qatari Handball Association announced the schedule of matches for the first phase of the men’s league for the 2017-18 season. The league will kick off on Monday, October 2, with five matches as Al Gharafa face Al Khor, Al Duhail take on Qatar SC, Al Ahli meet Al Wakrah, Al Rayyan play Al Shamal and Al Sadd go up against Al Arabi. El Jaish won the Qatari Handball league last season, while Al Qiyadah finished second and Al Rayyan finished third. Also, the association announced the youth league schedule. In the first round, Al Wakrah face Al Ahli, Al Shamal play Al Rayyan, Qatar SC meet Al Sadd, Al Duhail match up with Al Khor and Al Arabi take on Al Gharafa.

Al Arabi to face Oujda in Arab Club Handball Championship
Qatar’s Al Arabi will shake hands with Morocco’s Oujda in the last encounter in the first round of the 33rd Arab Club Handball Championship in Morocco yesterday. It is worth mentioning that Qatar’s Al Arabi confidently booked spot in the semifinals stage, following their convincing 42-24 victory over Widad Samara of Morocco on Sunday. Qatar’s second representative, Al Khor was scheduled to lock horns against Widad Samara yesterday in their last match in the championship.
