Qatar University yesterday started introductory events for the new academic semester, which are expected to be attended by more than 3,200 students.
The events will continue until next Saturday.
The events aim to introduce the students to the university environment, the regulations and rules at the various faculties and departments, and the services provided to them throughout their academic career at the university, as well as ways to select courses and the necessary academic guidance, and the facilities and services available to the student community.
Students are also introduced to the professional services available in the university and related to the requirements of the labour market, which helps them acquire valuable professional skills through a series of workshops.
The introductory meetings also include a tour for new students of the campus buildings, facilities and various centres and service departments.
Director of Student Development Affairs Haya Nasser al-Attiyah said in a press statement that the meetings are one of the most important events for which the university pays great attention in order to facilitate students’ transition to university life.
She explained that the introductory meetings reinforce the importance of the first year of the student’s academic life.
“University students must be fully aware of the importance of the first year of their academic career, as it constitutes their educational destiny and determines their goals,” she said.
She urged the students to choose the academic specialisation that suits their abilities and skills and to identify the career opportunities available in the field of study even before graduation.
The new academic session begins at all colleges and academic departments of the university next Sunday.
