Qatar's Abdulaziz Balghaith Friday won a gold medal in the 1m freestyle escalator, on the first day of the 9th Asian Championship in Tashkent.
The Qatar diving team is represented by Abdalaziz Balghaith and Mohamed Ahmed Shweitar, while the Qatari swimming team is represented by Abdul Aziz Hassan al-Obaidli, Abdulrahman Hisham Mohamed, Abdul Rahim al-Ali Hussein and Firas Murad al-Saidi.
In the last edition of the tournament held in Bangkok, in 2015, Shewaiter and Balghaith had won gold medals.
President of the Qatar Swimming Federation Khaleel al-Jabir praised Balghaith for beating a strong field.
