Eid al-Adha was celebrated across Qatar with great joy and gaiety on Friday by citizens and expatriates despite a three-month-old unjust siege. Scores of worshipers performed the Eid prayer in mosques and prayer grounds.

His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani performed Eid al-Adha prayer at Al Wajba grounds, the Qatar News Agency reported.
HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Khalifa al-Thani, the Emir’s personal representative His Highness Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa al-Thani, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE Sheikh Jassim bin Khalifa al-Thani and other sons of His Highness the Father Emir took part in the prayer.
HE the Advisory Council Speaker Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi and his deputy also performed the prayer along with a group of Sheikhs, ministers and members of the diplomatic corps in addition to citizens.
Dr Thaqeel Sayer al-Shammari, Court of Cassation judge and Supreme Judiciary Council member, who led the prayer, delivered the Eid sermon in which he urged Muslims to ponder the deep meanings of Eid al-Adha, such as tolerance, love and good deeds, as well as acting in line with directives of Allah Almighty, visit each other and maintain ties with kinship as a good trait of believers.

Dr al-Shammari said the siege imposed on Qatar has negatively affected social and family ties. He added that lack of communication with the party responsible for the Haj was tantamount to making it difficult for those wishing to perform Haj from Qatar, which prevented them from performing the ritual.
He appealed to scholars, preachers and wise men in the Gulf states to intervene for healing the rift.
Later in the day, the Emir received at Al Wajba Palace well-wishers on the advent of Eid al-Adha.
The Emir received HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE the Advisory Council Speaker Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi and his deputy, Sheikhs, ministers, undersecretaries, Advisory Council members and citizens.
The Emir also received heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the country as well as army and police officers, and heads of national institutions and departments.
The well-wishers expressed their greetings and congratulations to the Emir on such a blessed occasion, and prayed for blessings for the Qatari people and the Arab and Muslim nations.

A number of cultural activities and entertainment shows kicked off yesterday across Qatar in celebration of Eid al-Adha. Various festival locations welcomed a large number of residents and visitors.
The two-day Eid al-Adha celebrations for Asian communities are being organised by the Ministry of Interior; Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs; Ministry of Culture and Sports; and the Ministry of Public Health, as well as Qatar Charity at Asian Town, Labour City, Barwa Baraha, Al Wakra Sports Club, Al Ahli Sports Club and Barwa Workers Recreation Complex at Al Khor.
