The noted singer passed away at 9.10am, said BSMMU public relations officer Proshanto Majumder.
Abdul Jabbar was admitted to BSMMU on August 1 with several health problems including irregularities in liver, kidney and heart.
Meanwhile, President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their deep shock at the death of veteran singer Abdul Jabbar.
His body will be taken to Central Shaheed Minar at 11am on Thursday where people from all walks of life will pay their last tributes to him.
Later, his first namaz-e-janaza will be held at the Central Mosque of Dhaka University after Zohr prayers.
Jabbar inspired people through his songs from Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra during the Liberation War in 1971. He was awarded Bangabandhu Padak (1973), Ekushey Padak (1980), Swadhinata Padak (1996) and different national and international awards.
Born in Kushtia district, Jabbar first took music lessons from Ustad Osman Gani and Ustad Lutful Haque. He became an enlisted singer for radio in 1958 and television in 1964.
