Eid al-Adha celebrations in Qatar will feature a wide variety of events at several locations across the country, catering to all sections of the residents.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in association with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA) and Barwa Group will organise Eid al-Adha celebrations for expatriate communities on the first and second days of Eid.
A series of artistic performances and shows is all set to entertain residents and visitors at the Katara – the Cultural Village as part of the Eid al-Adha celebrations in Doha from the first day of Eid.
Qatar residents and visitors looking for some light-hearted entertainment over Eid al-Adha can look forward to the third summer edition of Doha Comedy Festival (DCF), Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has said.
The MoI events will be held on September 1 and 2 between 5pm and 10pm across six venues namely, the Asian Town, Labour City, Barwa Baraha, Al Wakra Sports Club, Al Ahli Sports Club and Barwa Workers Recreation Complex at Al Khor.
The schedule of the celebrations were announced on Tuesday at a meeting by MoI's Public Relations director Brigadier Abdullah Khalifa al-Muftah, MADLSA's International Labour Relations Department director Khalid Abdullah al-Ghanim and assistant director Faisal al-Shuaibi at a meeting attended by representatives of many expatriate communities.
Brigadier al-Muftah said the programme will comprise musical, cultural, folklore and traditional shows by teams from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Prominent expatriate orchestras from Qatar representing India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are to stage programmes while artistes from Pakistan and Nepal will also perform at communities' programmes.
Various government departments and agencies will also hold some awareness programmes for expatriates. Officials from the departments of the Ministry of Interior such as Traffic, Civil Defence, Al Fazaa Police, Community Police, Search and Follow up Department, and Human Rights Department will hold such sessions. There will be awareness classes by the officials of the Emergency Service 999 and MoI Public Relations Department.
At Katara, people can enjoy the artistic show inspired by the Arab heritage, which revolves around the famous character of Arabian tales and comic stories that mix excitement and suspense.
The stories will be presented daily in an interactive manner through an “attraction shadow theatre,” known as a modern technique using bright colours and shapes designed especially for the show.
Organisers said the performances will feature three different stories such as the Arabian tales, Roman Caesar, Alice in Wonderland, and Aladdin, in addition to a live acrobatic show.
The shows run in three instalments: from 6.30pm to 7pm; 7.45pm to 8.15pm, and 9pm to 9.30pm.
Eid gifts will also be presented to children at 7pm and 8.15pm with a daily display of fireworks at 9.30pm to light up the sky at night, which is expected to enthral visitors.
Having entertained more than 12,000 comedy fans in the past few years, the DCF returns this summer for an evening full of laughter on September 3 with a special line-up of five international comedians.
According to QTA, tickets for the event, which will take place at the Qatar National Convention Centre, are going fast with a limited number still selling in the silver (QR45) and Gold (QR99) categories at Virgin Megastores in Qatar.
