Colin Kaepernick spent some time Monday afternoon to recognise Eric Reid.
Reid’s former 49ers teammate thanked the fifth-year free safety for his continued support in a pair of Twitter posts, each of which included Kaepernick using the word ‘brother’ to describe Reid.
“Speaking truth to power! Love you Brother,” Kaepernick wrote in one tweet. “Thank you for being a voice for the people!”
Reid resumed the protest Kaepernick started last season by kneeling during the national anthem before the 49ers’s preseason game Sunday. Kaepernick’s message Monday used video taken by Bay Area News Group’s Cam Inman of Reid explaining why he resumed the protest.
“I feel I needed to regain control of that narrative and not let people say that what we’re doing is un-American, because it’s not,” Eric said. “It’s completely American. We’re doing it because we want equality for everybody. We want our country to be a better place. So that’s why I decided to resume the protest.”
Kaepernick also appreciated Reid using his signature celebration dance after deflecting a pass Sunday...
Reid mentioned the celebration in his comments to reporters (per Inman).
“I did it last week and I don’t think anybody noticed. It’s just a shout-out to my brother,” Reid said. “I miss him and hopefully I’ll see him on the field someday.”
Much has been made of Kaepernick’s future in the NFL, though the QB clearly knows who his friends are.
