The Culture Village Foundation – Katara has revealed a new project that will document falcon hunting as an integral part of the local heritage and traditions.
Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti explained that the organisation has been keen on preserving the Qatari heritage and assumed the responsibility of introducing it to the young people in and outside the country through various festivals, championships and other events.
Accordingly, technological advancements would be used to maintain a documentation project of the falcon hunting heritage. The project (called Al Mekhlah or the bag carried by the hunter where all the tools and needs for hunting are carried), aims at the collection of the largest possible number of related hunting movies with Qatari people to archive them in one place.
It is expected that the project would be ready by the end of 2019. The project will be done in two phases, the collection phase and the classification and selection phase. Then, the selected movies will be displayed through the various social media platforms.
