The lack of a responsible reaction from the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) and the Arab League in the ongoing Gulf crisis has been disappointing, prominent Doha resident Adeel Akbar said.
An engineer with the Ministry of Interior maintenance department, Akbar was the guest yesterday on the live radio show ‘Haqeeqat’, aired on Qatar’s Urdu radio programme.
Being one of the largest organisations of Muslim countries in the world, people were hoping to see OIC as well as the Arab League take a line of action when human rights were violated as a result of the blockade of Qatar, he remarked.
Akbar said that even though the blockade has continued for nearly three months now, the State of Qatar alleviated the apprehensions of the general public.
It was pointed out that even though the silence from the Arab League was sad and disappointing, people remain optimistic regardless.
“We are very hopeful that the crisis will be resolved soon. If there is a misunderstanding between the GCC countries it needs to be addressed because we are all part of the same Muslim ummah at the end of the day.”
Haqeeqat – Reality in Urdu and Al Haqeeqah in Arabic, aims to engage and interact with the large South Asian expatriate community in Qatar. Ashraf Siddiqui will be the guest of today’s show that will be broadcast at 8pm.
