Maersk Taurus the latest vessel to call at Hamad Port

The Maersk Taurus is the most recent vessel to arrive at Hamad Port from the Port of Salalah in Dhofar, the largest port in Oman, Qatar Ports Management Company (Mwani Qatar) has said in its Twitter account.
The cargo vessel arrived with a total of 3,798 TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) worth of cargo, including 407 reefer (refrigerated) containers.
A statement issued last month announced that Mwani Qatar and its partners inaugurated five new direct service lines between Hamad Port and several ports in the region and beyond in less than 20 days.
“The move is part of efforts to ensure continuous flow of supplies and meet the needs of local market in light of the recent measures taken against Qatar,” the statement pointed out.
It added: “The launch of the new lines comes within the framework of the directives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications to ensure the vessel movement, shipping operation, and maritime navigation are not affected by these measures.”
The statement quoted Hamad Port director Captain Abdul Aziz al-Yafei as saying that the launch of the new maritime lines emphasises the high reliability of the Qatari economy and its ability to adapt to regional and global changes, and will contribute to providing fast and secure solutions to importers and exporters.
“We are assured that these new lines will consolidate trade ties between the state of Qatar and the world, as well as promoting trade exchange and support Qatar National Vision 2030,” he added.
Al-Yafei also stressed that Mwani Qatar is committed to playing a vital role in stabilising domestic market by managing Qatar's ports and providing a stable platform for supply chain for Qatar’s economy, in cooperation with its partners and stakeholders.
In a related development, Mwani Qatar also tweeted that its performance hit “a record high in July, with general cargo in particular witnessing the highest growth, up to 158% from June 2017.”
An infographic tweeted by Mwani Qatar revealed that for July, the company handled 48,873 standard containers and 80,275 tonnes of general cargo. This also includes 74,148 heads of livestock, 7,897 tonnes of aggregate, and 4,922 units from the roll-on, roll-off (Roro).
