The Academic Bridge Program (ABP), a centre of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), has held an orientation event for 220 new students.
The event was held at the Learning Resource Centre, located in the ABP building on the QF campus.
During the gathering, the students of class 2017-2018 were introduced to the programme facilities, policies and activities, as well as the officers, faculty and staff members with whom they would work during the upcoming academic year.
The orientation included an introductory speech by ABP director Dr Bryan Lewallen, in which he welcomed the new students.
Afterwards, the students walked around the building to familiarise themselves with its facilities and services.
“Our faculty and staff members work hard for everything to run smoothly on the very first day of the new academic year. We look forward to a very successful and rewarding year ahead,” Dr Lewallen said. “I am very proud of our ABP students and the continuous accomplishments they achieve.”
The assistant director for Student Services, Moza al-Boainin, gave a speech to motivate the students.
Subsequently, the students were divided into groups so that they could be introduced to the programme’s facilities.
They were taken on a tour around the Science and English sections, Student Services, Administration offices, and laboratories.
In addition, representatives of Education City universities were invited to provide information to the students on their institutions.
Lunch with new students was the last activity on the first day of orientation.
On the second day of orientation, the ABP’s Dr Mark Newmark started by giving a presentation on the events and activities that the students would be engaging in, while a representative from QF recreation and facilities explained the services offered by QF to students.
They were then divided into groups and taken to classrooms led by the faculty, who held a short session on study skills such as time management and note-taking.
Since its inception in 2001, the ABP has graduated about 2,900 students, and more than 85% of them enrolled in English-speaking universities in Qatar, the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries.
The students were introduced to the programme facilities, policies and activities, as well as the faculty and staff members with whom they would work during the upcoming academic year.
