Ooredoo has announced that it will sponsor two of Qatar’s top equestrian riders for the 2017/2018 season.
This comes as the company “continues to support sports across all levels — grassroots, national and international”, according to a press statement from Ooredoo.
Qatar Equestrian Federation members Sheikh Ali bin Khalid al-Thani and Ali Yousef al-Rumaihi competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Thanks to the sponsorship agreement, Ooredoo will support the riders during the Global Champions Tour in Berlin, London, Valkenswaard, Rome, Doha and Al Rayaan, the statement notes.
Manar Khalifa al-Muraikhi, Ooredoo’s director of PR and Corporate Communications, said: “Horse riding is a huge part of Qatar’s culture, which is why we’re delighted to add Sheikh Ali bin Khalid al-Thani and Ali Yousef al-Rumaihi to the growing Ooredoo Team, which already supports a host of Qatari superstars.
“We hope promoting such talented national sportsmen will inspire the next generation to get involved in sports.”
Sheikh Ali placed sixth at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the individual jumping event, and is the highest-ranked Qatari rider in the world, according to the Longines FEI World Ranking list.
Al-Rumaihi won a team gold in Doha at the 2006 Asian Games and was placed 16th in the individual show jumping competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.
Ooredoo’s sponsorship is a part of several initiatives the company has undertaken to encourage sports and inspire more young people to take up sports in 2017, the statement adds.
The company is engaged in a number of sporting sponsorships, initiatives and events, including providing support for brand ambassador Nasser al-Attiyah and leading motorcycle racers Mashel al-Naimi and Fahid al-Sowaidi.
