HE the Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah on Monday visited US supercarrier USS Nimitz, which is one of the largest warships in the world and the lead ship of its class. It is currently present in the Arabian Gulf.

The Directorate of Moral Guidance at the Ministry of Defence said in a press statement that HE Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah got to see the high-technological capacity and great capabilities of the supercarrier.

USS Nimitz weighs as much as a 100 tonnes and is 330 meters long. The number staff operating inside it can reach up to 5,680. It can also carry close to 90 jets. The visit of HE the Minister of State for Defence Affairs to the aircraft carrier was in the context of military bilateral co-operation between Qatar and the US, as well as in the context of joint counter-terrorism operations.
