The sub-station will provide the Doha Metro Project with electricity in line with the operational framework for stations and to serve future projects in Qatar, the corporation has said in a statement.
The statement notes that Kahramaa, in collaboration with Qatar Rail, has "achieved operational works" of the 132/33KV substation. The project took 16 months and was completed on July 17.
The substation will get its supply from the Al Thumama super station and generation plant in Ras Abu Fontas.
The facility has been designed with two separate systems for operations. The first one of 132kV will be operated by Kahramaa and the second system of 33kV is to be operated by Qatar Rail, the statement points out.
In addition to the auxiliary transformers and all associated equipment, the substation has been connected to Ras Abu Fontas and the Al Thumama super station with the existing 2x132kV cable circuits. It has been designed, constructed and provided with adequate power for the project.
The project has been supervised through full co-ordination between the Kahramaa and Qatar Rail teams.
Moreover, there are plans to construct four more substations (including one 220/132/33kVsubstation) and work is expected to start before the end of this year.
Kahramaa, according to the statement, is keen to follow the highest standards of safety and security in all its activities and operations, including railway station projects, which completed more than 3,375 working hours on July 17 without injuries or accidents.
Kahramaa said it also ensured that workers involved in its projects availed of the best working and living conditions during the project period.
