Qatar Chamber (QC) has launched an initiative aimed at identifying losses sustained by Qatari companies from the economic blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia and its allies, it was announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, QC said it recently published an online questionnaire on its website to monitor and identify the extent of the damage caused by the economic blockade to Qatari companies.
The questionnaire will aid the Compensation Claims Committee in addressing the claims made not only by Qatari companies but also government bodies, authorities, ministries, private companies, public institutions and individuals, according to a statement.
“The chamber is very interested in collecting accurate and true information on the extent of the actual damage Qatari companies have sustained due to the unfair blockade,” said Saif bin Yousef al-Kuwari, who heads the Committees & Business Councils Department and the Economic Committee for identifying damage caused by the blockade.
Al-Kuwari said the questionnaire aims to pinpoint the actual volume of transactions and damage so that the “appropriate legal measures” would be taken “according to accurate and documented information”.
“We have launched an online questionnaire via the Chamber’s website through http://qatarchamber.com/?lang=en
“The questionnaire shall be completed for each activity separately. The actual damage (not the expected) shall be mentioned during the period from June 5, 2017 until the date of filling of the questionnaire,” said al-Kuwari, who called on owners and officials of Qatari companies to fill out the questionnaire and provide “accurate and correct information”.
He said companies affected by the economic blockade must attach all required documents, which would be submitted later to the Compensation Claims Committee. He noted that claims with unsupported documents “would be dismissed”.
Al-Kuwari also praised the directives of QC chairman HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim al-Thani “for attempting to identify the damage to local companies due to the unfair siege, and addressing all results to the Compensation Claims Committee”.
HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani recently opened the Compensation Claims Committee office at Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre. The panel is tasked with handling loss claims by government bodies, authorities, ministries, private companies, public institutions and individuals due to the siege on Qatar.
