Qatar Olympic football team beat Bangladesh 3-0 in a friendly in preparation for the under-23 Asian qualifiers, due to be held in Doha from July 19 to 23. Akram Afif opened the scoring for Qatar in the 13rd minute before Ahmed al-Saadi doubled the lead in the 38th minute.
Omar al-Emadi wrapped up the win with a 61st minute goal in the match that was staged at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd Club.
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the calendar of the AFC U-23 World Cup qualifiers in Doha, with the Qatari team drawn alongside Turkmenistan, India and Syria. Qatar will start their campaign against Turkmenistan on July 19 before facing India on July 21 and Syria on July 23. All tournament matches kick off at 5 and 8pm
Al Sadd sign Juventus youth keeper coach
Al Sadd have named Italian coach Luca Skansani their new goalkeeper coach for the new Qatar Stars League season. Skansani will replace his compatriot Nando Scarbello, who decided to return home at the end of the last season, according to the club’s official website.
Skansani, 37, took charge of Torino youth keepers from 2008 to 2012 before taking charge of training Juventus youth keepers from 2012 to 2017. Meanwhile, Al Sadd has scheduled the club’s ordinary general meeting for August 20 to discuss issues on the agenda.
CAF suspends Al Ahly coach over BeIn boycott
Al Ahly coach Hossam El Badry has been suspended for one match by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after boycotting a press conference over the presence of the Qatari-owned BeIn Sports channel.
Egypt and several of its allies cut diplomatic relations with Qatar last month, accusing it of supporting extremism. The Eygptian FA and its respective clubs then decided to boycott BeIn Sports as a result.
On June 20, ahead of Al Ahly’s CAF Champions League match against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, El Badry walked out of a press conference due to a BeIn Sports microphone being in the room. He eventually returned a few minutes later but covered up the microphone. El Badry and his players then refused to grant the broadcaster an interview after their match against Cameroonians Coton Sport in Alexandria last Sunday.
CAF said in a statement that El Badry violated “directives and guidelines related to media operations”, and also slapped the coach with a $10,000 fine.
