HE Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi on Monday met Jose Graziano da Silva, the Director General of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in the presence of HE Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki, Qatar's ambassador to Italy and permanent representative to UN agencies in Rome.
HE the minister explained to the FAO director general the details and repercussions of the land, sea and air siege imposed by some regional countries on Qatar. The negative effects of the blockade on the food security of the countries in the region are also explained. HE Al Rumaihi pointed out how the siege is in contradiction with UN conventions, particularly 1996 Rome Declaration on World Food Security.
The meeting also reviewed the distinguished ties between the State of Qatar and FAO, and the effective role Qatar has been playing in the organization's activities.
The minister is currently on a visit to Rome to participate in the 40th session of the FAO Conference, taking place from July 3 to 8.
