A few additional flights may be operated to some of the Indian destinations to address the growing requirements of Indian expatriates in Qatar during the upcoming Eid al-Fitr season and beyond.
While informing this on Monday to Gulf Times, Indian ambassador P Kumaran said he had already taken up the issue with the Indian Minister of Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathy Raju and positive responses are expected from the government.
"Indian airline companies may operate some additional flights during the Eid al-Fitr season but their destinations would only be known as and when the decision is made," said Kumaran.
There has been an unprecedented rush on the flights to the Indian sectors as four UAE-based carriers have temporarily stopped their operations to Qatar following the economic and travel blockade on Qatar. They together operated 19 to 22 daily flights between Doha and airports in the UAE.
It is believed that between 800 and 1,600 Qatar-based travellers were earlier flying daily to Indian destinations through airports in the UAE.
