The Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has achieved the Diamond-level accreditation certificate from Accreditation Canada International, the highest level of accreditation awarded by the organisation.

The Diamond-level accreditation refers to outcomes using evidence and best practices to improve the services provided by a healthcare facility.
All the 25 health centres under PHCC have been awarded the accreditation. A team of six surveyors from Accreditation Canada International inspected all the facilities and services at these health centres and approved them to the highest standards. The whole process of inspection alone took nearly one month to complete.
The certificate was obtained following a rigourous survey of patient safety, administrative policies, human resources, financial resources and data systems during the visits of the surveyors. During their visits, they met with patients, staff, partners and senior management, registering satisfaction of the quality and safety standards in addition to patient care.
Accreditation Canada International provides three levels of accreditation with Diamond being the highest. The other two levels are Platinum and Gold. While Gold is the first level, Platinum is the second level in the accreditation category which PHCC had achieved in 2014.These levels are determined by the performance of the organisations during the on-site survey.
Accreditation Canada International identified several success areas of PHCC, including the commitment of a multicultural workforce, the integrated quality in all areas, the systematic focus on quality enabling management and organisational capacity building.
Other areas of excellence included the mastery of organisational and clinical standardisation, local innovation response to community needs and the drive to ensure that PHCC services reflect the corporation’s values, delivering care as well as patient centric healthcare services.
Jeanette Edwards, a surveyor from Accreditation Canada International, said, “We shared a brief report with the PHCC team that highlighted strengths and recommendations in going forward. Qatar has underlined the significance of primary care as a foundation of the whole health system and the quality of the services we experienced, was remarkable.”
Dr Mariam Abdulmalik, managing director, PHCC commented, “The achievement was made possible thanks to the outstanding efforts from top administration, the continued hard work of all PHCC medical staff and relentless efforts by all employees.”
Accreditation Canada International is one of the oldest international accreditation organisations and most experienced in certifying primary healthcare services across the world.
