The Al Khor and Al Thakhira Municipality's Health Inspection Section has conducted an inspection campaign on the commercial complexes and supermarkets within its jurisdiction.
The campaign was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce's (MEC) Consumer Protection Department to exercise tighter control on the local market and fight commercial fraud during the holy month of Ramadan.
The campaign focused mainly on meat shops and resulted in spotting a number of outlets manipulating the prices of meat products on display.
Veterinarians at the municipality conducted a number of inspection campaigns on the meat and poultry shops, where they checked fridges, meat processing tools, equipment and work areas to ensure their safety on human health.
The veterinarians in particular made sure that workers abide by the applicable food health and safety regulations, and the necessary rules of hygiene on daily basis.
In addition, the Health Inspection Section receives any related complaints from residents and conducts regular inspection campaigns on the meat processing outlets to ensure the safety of the products and the compliance of the used materials and equipment.
For this, random samples are regularly taken from the meat, fish, milk and poultry products for laboratory analysis to ensure safety for human consumption.
During Ramadan, more focus is given to the control on the slaughterhouses within the municipality due to the increasing consumer demand.
