A Doha Criminal court has sentenced three Asian expatriates to three years in jail and a fine of QR5,000 each for counterfeiting some banknotes of the UAE and attempting to use them in the country.

Local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported that the court also ordered their deportation after serving their jail terms. The defendants were referred to the court accused of colluding with other unidentified persons in counterfeiting the 500 Emirati Dirhams banknote and trying to pay for their purchases inside the country with them.

After reviewing the case, the court convicted them based on police investigations and the included material evidence.
