Damac Properties recently held its first-ever staff sporting event as part of the Damac Active initiative, introducing a series of events aimed at building team spirit and promoting an active lifestyle among its employees.
With this, the company has said it is “reinforcing its commitment to employee engagement and well-being and encouraging an active lifestyle among its staff.”
Damac Properties is one of the region’s leading luxury real estate developers.
The first edition of Damac Active took place in Dubai at The Sevens Stadium and Dubai British School with more than 800 employees turning out to showcase their skills and talents in a “fun and relaxed yet competitive atmosphere,” according to a press statement from the company.
The event promises to be an annual feature on Damac’s social activity calendar, with others planned to provide staff with opportunities to spend leisure time with their colleagues.
Tournaments were held in five sporting disciplines – basketball, football, cricket, volleyball and throwball.
The two-week event was attended by members of Damac’s executive management, including chairman Hussain Sajwani, as well as various staff members and their families.
Cash prizes were awarded to a total of 106 winners across the five tournaments.
Niall McLoughlin, senior vice-president of Damac Properties, said: “Damac Active provides a wonderful opportunity to nurture team effort and promote camaraderie and stronger unions. It also provides a means to get to know our colleagues in other parts of the organisation in a manner that allows them to display their sporting talents in a fun, vibrant setting.
“Sport is a vital component in building a physically active workforce, and engaging in sporting activities can have a tremendous motivational impact on our employees; we believe this goes a long way in developing a more congruent organisation. Ultimately, such events lead to happier employees and, in turn, enhanced productivity and business success, thus benefiting both the employees and the company.”
The second week of Damac Active – which coincided with the final stages of the tournaments – featured a family carnival held on the sidelines of the main events.
Kids present at the venues were kept busy and entertained with a variety of fun
activities.
