The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has unveiled a series of initiatives to mark the holy month of Ramadan, 1438 Hijri, under the theme ‘#Aqal_Min_Al_Wajeb’, Arabic for ‘#the_least_we_can _do’.
Intensified inspections campaigns will also be conducted by the MEC before and throughout Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, the ministry has stressed.
In a press statement yesterday, the MEC said the initiatives cover all aspects of its activities in terms of organisation, partnership and support. These include sheep subsidies and price reductions on consumer goods in addition to the organisation of a number of awareness programmes on various commercial and consumption-related issues.
The initiatives come within the framework of the MEC’s keenness to “assume its role in society”, the statement notes.
The MEC has also said it will launch several new initiatives aimed at stimulating community partnership, such as ‘Ataa’, Arabic for ‘Giving’, as well as the ‘National Product’ initiatives.
Further, the ministry will announce an initiative pertaining to price reductions on consumer goods as well as a number of initiatives related to the organisation of markets and stimulating commercial sectors, the statement points out, adding that the MEC will disclose details of its initiatives during the holy month.
In this connection, the ministry has invited the public to follow its various accounts on social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and YouTube under the name MEC_QATAR, and subscribe to its WhatsApp account on 66111400, where the MEC will announce details of its series of initiatives on the occasion of Ramadan.
A number of retailers and commercial outlets in the country have started offering special deals in view of the holy month.
For instance, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company recently launched its Ramadan campaign by offering 1,438 consumer goods at cost price in 35 branches across the country, in addition to Géant Hypermarket.
The 1,438 “high-quality products have been selected to cater to specific needs of shoppers during Ramadan”, Al Meera had said in a statement.
Automobile dealers, too, have come up with special offers to mark the occasion of Ramadan.
