Fans at the Emir Cup final between Al Sadd and Al Rayyan, which will be hosted at the redeveloped Khalifa International Stadium, will be in for an unforgettable experience, officials told journalists yesterday during a tour of the complex.
The visit was arranged by the Local Organising Committee of the Emir Cup Final 2007 to apprise journalists about the new facilities at the stadium.
Khalifa International Stadium project manager Mohamed Elamin Abdullah Ahmed said the lighting system installed at the stadium is one of the best in the world.
“This lighting system is a world-class design feature, allowing visually stunning light shows to be created inside and outside the stadium,” Mohamed said.
“There are not many stadiums in the world with such a facility. The Khalifa International Stadium will give spectators a new experience and the lighting system, including the roof lighting system, is capable of showcasing a variety of colours.”
He added: “The energy-efficient LED lighting systems reduce costs and improve safety and crowd flow with well-lit areas in and around the stadium.”
According to the official, the new features are in full compliance with FIFA requirements and include an additional seating stand on the eastern part of the stadium, innovative cooling technology to keep spectators and players comfortable throughout the match, and a sports museum within the venue.
The entire spectator area has a new roof, which features an intricate net of German- and Italian-made steel tension cables.
These cables, weighing 4,000 tonnes, have been put up to hold the 92 panels in place.
Corporates can take advantage of a beautiful corporate box area, which is spread over  three layers, and provide a perfect view of the magnificent pitch.
The renovated stadium has more seats for the specially-abled, and the design ensures a good view from all positions.
The LOC will announce the ticket prices for the match at a press conference today and will also give an insight on match day operations and general information for the fans.
Additionally, the Community Engagement team under the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) showed various community groups the fan zone area, which will feature food and drinks kiosks, while entertainment will be available to the public during the match on Friday.
On the big day, as many as 19 expatriate communities will take centre stage from 3.30pm-6.30pm in fan-related activities for families in the fan zone.
