The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, in collaboration with the embassy of Bangladesh in Doha, organised a performance, titled ‘Bangladeshi Cultural Performance’ which was performed by a troupe from Shilpa Kala Academy at Katara Drama Theatre recently.
Bangladeshi ambassador to Doha Ashud Ahmed expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara for its continuous support and efforts to host various art performances that shed light on different cultures of Bangladesh. On the occasion, the ambassador presented a traditional Bangladeshi souvenir to Katara’s General Manager.
The troupe performed a variety of traditional dances from different regions of Bangladesh, keeping the assembled audience entertained throughout the two-hour event.
The performers wore striking traditional costumes that reflected the diversity, culture and rich heritage of Bangladesh. The audience enjoyed the foot-tapping music and dance performances, which were accompanied by the lyrics of some of the most prominent singers in Bangladesh.
In the run-up to the event, Katara organised an exhibition titled, ‘Bangladesh Art Painting Exhibition’, on May 3. The exhibition comprised 26 fine-art paintings by 26 artists from the Academy of Art in Bangladesh, including Sayed Jahangir, Jamal Ahmed, Mahmoud al-Haq, Ranjit Das, Sayed Abu al-Baraq, al-Safi and Samarjit Roy Chowdhury.
The paintings revealed the artists’ ability to control colours and adapt them to vivid expressions and stunning landscapes.
