A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced a Yemeni man to 10 years in jail, and imposed a fine of QR200,000 on him for selling and consuming illicit drugs. The court has also ordered his deportation after serving the jail term.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Tuesday that a friend of the defendant from the same nationality was sentenced to six months in jail and fined QR10,000 for consuming illicit drug hashish. The court acquitted him of the charges of illicit drugs trade.
According to the case file, a Ministry of Interior department received information that a person used to sell cannabis and consume it personally. He was approached by an undercover officer and agreed with him for the sale of some pieces of marijuana for QR4,000.
When the deal was conducted under the surveillance of police, the defendant was arrested and some quantity of illicit drugs was found with him, hidden in his house and vehicle. 
The second defendant also happened to accompany him at the time of the arrest.
