Qatar Charity (QC), in collaboration with Qatar Cyclists, is preparing to launch the third phase of the ‘Cyclists for Education’ initiative.
Over the past two phases, the participating cyclists have raised half of the money required as part of an initiative that aims to raise QR5mn for rebuilding a girls’ school in Gaza, QC has said in a statement.
The initiative comes within the framework of QC’s belief in the importance of improving the quality of education and the learning environment, providing secondary education services to 1,920 girls in Beit Lahia and the Bedouin village in the northern Gaza strip and providing scientific
laboratories, the statement notes.
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Qatar Cyclists for co-operating with us and for spending both their time and effort on humanitarian work,” said Ali Atiq al-Abdullah, executive director for Local Development, QC.
He pointed out that the third phase of the global cycling event is based on the belief that sports can deliver a valuable message related to charitable and humanitarian work, adding that sports stars can help others and serve as role models for the entire
society, especially young people.
“Starting after Eid al-Fitr, cyclists will ride 800kms from Britain to Germany to support the construction phases of the project. The Qatar Cyclists team is fully prepared to start the global biking challenge in five European countries,” said Dr Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari, team leader of Qatar Cyclists, adding that more than 50 young Qatari riders have registered for participation
until now.
He also informed that members of the Qatar Cyclists team would hold a press conference before launching the third phase in order to market the project and support charitable work and sports simultaneously through organising various events
sponsored by corporate houses.
