Meerat Ramadan, an initiative by the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara to sell groceries at a low cost throughout the holy month of Ramadan, was launched on Thursday.
Meerat Ramadan, open at Katara’s southern sector until June 29, will have the participation of many Qatari food and beverage suppliers such as Al-Meera, Baladna Live-stock production, Widam Food, and 35 other outlets.
“As families are gearing up to host the holy month of Ramadan, Meerat Ramadan aims to enhance their experience of fasting, all through the 30 days,” according to a statement issued by Katara.
The market will offer a wide array of fresh produce and cupboard staples that are usually in large demand during the holy month.

Traditional household implements are displayed as part of Meerat Ramadan.

Aside from the more popular food items such as dates, sweets, dried fruit and nuts, the market also offers oud, gifts and clothing accessories, to further help families complete a bulk of their shopping at a single venue.
After inaugurating Meerat Ramadan, Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti described the venture as "a one-stop place where visitors are welcome to enjoy a distinctive ambience that combines the experience of shopping with spirituality."
Al-Sulaiti pointed out that the Cultural Village has become an ideal destination for families as it offers facilities most appropriate to host such events and festivals.
The past few months have seen Katara host events such as the Mahaseel Festival, Halal Qatar Festival, and Katara’s Traditional Souq, all of which attracted big crowds, especially families.
