The Indian Community Benevolent Fund (ICBF), under the aegis of the embassy of India, in association with Qatar Ministry of Interior, will be organising a mega cultural and awareness event on the occasion of International Labour Day tomorrow (from 5pm) at Asian Town in Doha Industrial Area.
The celebration with participation of seven departments from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) will include stage performances of the workers of various nationalities and a few cultural performances from affiliated organisations followed by a live musical programme.
The unwavering support of the Ministry of Interior and the noteworthy interest exhibited by the Ministry of Labour (MoL) in the affairs and welfare of the expatriate working communities in Qatar is the evidence of the Qatar government’s farsightedness and great vision towards keeping the country as welcoming as ever for its committed expatriate workforce contributing to the nation’s development.
“The firm association of Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Labour, with ICBF, lays the cornerstone to ICBF’s undeterred efforts in the direction of betterment of workers, said the president of ICBF Devis Edakkalathur.
We realised that celebrating the essence of International Labour Day at Asian Town in Industrial Area will be a gesture to portray our commitment hand-in-hand with the respected ministries for the common cause – a smile on the faces of our hardworking brothers and sisters, he added.
During the celebration of the International Labour Day, we have planned to organise a free medical camp in the morning from 7am to 11am and a Cultural Fiesta in the evening from 5pm to 10 pm with participation of seven departments from the Ministry of Interior.
The Traffic Department will present an awareness session on pedestrian safety and the Civil Defence on fire safety and rescue procedures. The Public Relations Department will present a show on Qatar’s customs and traditions and the Community Policing Department will explain about the services offered to the public in various parts of Qatar.
In addition to this, the Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs, Al Fazaa Police and Human Rights Department also will support the event by awareness sessions on the subjects related with the functions of each department.
ICBF has invited all members of expatriate community in Qatar to be a part of this gesture to bring a smile on the faces of the workforce, who contribute their best towards the growth of this wonderful nation, he urged.
Indian Community Benevolent Forum is an unique philanthropic organisation under the patronage of the embassy of India, Qatar, which since its inception in 1984, has relentlessly worked towards providing all possible humanitarian and other feasible assistances to the needy and deserving members of the Indian community residing in Qatar.
In view of the humanitarian and social contributions of the organisation, ICBF was awarded the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award in 2011. ICBF functions through a dedicated office located within the Indian embassy of Qatar, and through Help Desks at Al Khor and Dukhan.
ICBF regularly provides food supply to stranded labourers, conducts regular free medical camps for low paid workers and arranges to send the mortal remains of the deceased back to their hometown in India.
