HE the Minister of Energy and Industry and Qatar University Alumni Association (QUAA) president Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada yesterday hosted the former dean of Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq), Dr Mark H Weichold, at an event in which the latter gave an overview on Tamu’s Association of Former Students.
Dr al-Sada was joined by QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham, QU leadership and faculty, and QUAA members.
“It is a pleasure to host a renowned person in the academic field to outline the experience of Tamu’s Association of Former Students. Dr Weichold was in Qatar for many years and has a strong background in the education system in Qatar,” Dr al-Sada said.
Weichold briefed the audience on Tamu’s Association of Former Students and the role of the Association’s Board of Directors. He noted that the Association has been developed at the organisational level since its establishment in 1879. He further noted that the main objectives of the Association remained the same. He said: “These objectives include fostering the Aggie Network, strengthening links between former students and their alma mater, and serving the student body.”
“The university supports 450,000 graduates since 1979. The Association organised 300 social, cultural, charitable and sport events in 2016, and over 282 events in 2015 and 239 in 2014. We encourage our current students to volunteer in the Association’s events and to remain loyal to their alma mater after graduation.”
QU’s manager of Alumni and Stakeholder Relations Rana Alfalasi said: “This event shows our commitment to benefit from the experiences of prestigious universities.”
