Barwa Bank, in association with Qatar Charity, yesterday launched a new credit card as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
The new co-branded credit card empowers its holders to make a difference in the community through a charity contribution that is made by Barwa Bank every time a client uses the card, whose launch comes ahead of Ramadan.
“The launch of the new credit card, in alliance with Qatar Charity, is our humble contribution to citizens and residents in Qatar who are keen on sharing their blessings and care about improving the lives of fellow community members in need,” Barwa Bank group chief executive Khalid al-Subaie said.
The MasterCard-powered credit card is fully Shariah-compliant, and also comes with all the features and benefits of existing Platinum credit cards, including the issuance of two free supplementary cards, as well as purchase protection through its takaful partners, making its clients’ purchases 100% safe and secure, Talal Ahmed al-Khaja, Group chief communications officer at Barwa Bank said.
“We would also like to thank Barwa Bank for its generous gesture of donating money with every purchase made by the credit card holders, which then goes through the charity to those who are in need, highlighting the bank’s commitment to the community and its humane initiatives that we all witness on the ground,” according to Yousef bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, chief executive of Qatar Charity.
The introduction of this socially-responsible credit card will provide Barwa Bank’s customers with an easy and effective way to help those in need, as well as echoes MasterCard’s philosophy “success lies in the service of the community”, said Khalid Elgibali, Divisional President (Middle East and North Africa) at MasterCard.
