The Department of Social Sciences at Qatar University’s College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) hosted an event to celebrate Qatar Family Day 2017, under the patronage of QU President Dr Hassan al-Derham.
Organised in collaboration with Family Consulting Centre in Qatar and Kuwait University College of Social Sciences, the event aimed to promote the spirit of collaboration and student exchange between universities in the GCC and to showcase the field training exercises provided by various institutions in Qatar and Kuwait.
Attendees included Kuwait embassy’s chargé d’Affaires Nasser Saqer al-Ghanim, CAS Dean Dr Rashid al-Kuwari, Department of Social Sciences head Dr Abdulnasser Saleh Alyafei, and Kuwait University’s Kuwaiti Social Work Association consultant and vice president Dr Malak Alrasheed, as well as CAS faculty, students and staff.
The programme included three sessions that discussed a wide range of issues such as the role of social institutions, the field training exercises provided by social, medical, educational and psychological institutions, and an overview on the Kuwaiti Social Work Association and the undergraduate and graduate programmes provided by Kuwait University College of Social 
Sciences. 
Dr Alyafei said the event shed light on the experiences of the various social, medical, educational and psychological institutions in Qatar and Kuwait in the area of field training. “The sessions provided a comprehensive vision that contributes to a huge transformation in social studies and to new tracks in social services, and to investing in the outcomes of theoretical studies to improve the quality of life 
and living.”
Dr Alrasheed said the visit to QU was part of the many collaborative agreements between the universities in the GCC. “These visits contribute to enriching the students’ academic and personal life while providing them with the opportunity to exchange their knowledge and share their views to promote sciences in general and the social service profession in particular.”
