Qatar succeeded in achieving a per capita reduction of 18% in electricity consumption and 20% in water usage at the end of the first phase of the five-year National Programme for Conservation and energy Efficiency (Tarsheed), held under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
This was announced yesterday at a ceremony to mark the conclusion of the campaign at the newly-built Kahramaa Awareness Park in Al Thumama. Present on the occasion were HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada and Kahramaa president and senior engineer Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari and other dignitaries.
At the meeting, Kahramaa also announced the start of the second phase of Tarsheed campaign for the next five years, running up to 2022.
The Prime Minister and the Energy Minister also gave away awards to winners of the competitions held as part of Tarsheed. Schools, government offices and individuals were among the winners.
Al-Kuwari announced that in the next phase of the Tarsheed campaign, Kahramaa plans to achieve a per capita reduction of 15% in the use of water and 8% in electricity.
Kahramaa president  also announced a roadmap to achieve the Tarsheed targets in line with the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
At the meeting it was  announced that  an effective financial savings of about QR3.98bn would be made from the Tarsheed campaign at the end of 2017. The figures in the last four years were QR589mn (2013), QR793mn (2014), QR889mn (2015) and QR1.71bn (2016). 
There would be a reduction of CO2 emissions to the  tune of over 8.5mn tonnes at the end of 2017. The reduction in the previous four years were 3.06mn tonnes (2016),  1.81m tonnes (2015), 1.74mn tonnes (2014) and 1.87mn tonnes (2013). 
The reduction expected in the emission of natural gas this year is 22,864mn cu ft. In the previous four years the figures were 75,641 cu ft (2016), 43,412 cu ft (2015), 42,802 cu ft (2014) and 42,997 cu ft (2013).

Best Renewable Energy Initiative: Qatar Foundation  (Solar PV Units for Irrigation Systems). Engineer Ibrahim al-Ali (Individuals, Humidification Dehumidification Desalination), Al-Shiamaa Secondary Independent School for Girls (Research on eco-friendly green school model).
Best Government Corporation Applying Tarsheed practices (Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy).
