An Indian paramilitary trooper, who posted videos on social media claiming soldiers on border duties were being served poor quality food, has been sacked for making false allegations, a statement from the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Thursday.
Tej Bahadur Yadav, a constable with the BSF, posted two videos on his Facebook page in January alleging troopers were being fed burnt roti (Indian flatbread) and daal (lentils) with turmeric and salt and that senior officers were siphoning off rations and selling them.
Yadav was dismissed after an internal court of the BSF found him guilty on four counts of breach of discipline including false allegations and posting photographs on social media, the statement said.
The BSF is a paramilitary force that guards India's borders. Yadav was posted in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district along the border with Pakistan when he posted the videos.
Yadav said on Thursday he would challenge the decision in another court.
The sacking means Yadav, after 20 years of service in the BSF, would be denied a pension.
"This is how it has always been for telling the truth. I was kept in seclusion and always with a guard since I made the complaint," Yadav said.
A BSF court of inquiry heard the matter for a week in April and Yadav was given an opportunity to defend himself, a spokesman for the BSF said. "He can appeal against this order within three months."
