Qatar University College of Engineering (QU-CENG) has launched its 4th Engineering Week aimed at orienting high school students and the wider community on the importance of science and engineering in Qatar’s growth and development.
The annual 4-day event sponsored by Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) and Qatar Steel, is also a forum to provide secondary and preparatory school students with an insight into CENG’s undergraduate programmes and with the opportunity to visit the booths that showcase information about CENG’s undergraduate programmes and to live engineering experiences through competitions, quizzes and technical demonstrations.
Also participating in the exhibition were CENG’s research centres — Kindi Lab for Computing Research, Gas Processing Centre and Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Centre — ExxonMobil, Mowasalat, Fahes, ibTECHar Digital Solutions LLC, and Qatar Green Building Council.
Attending the opening ceremony were QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham, Qapco managing director and CEO and head of CENG Industrial Advisory Board Dr Mohammed Yousef al-Mulla, QU vice president for academic affairs Dr Hassan Alfadala, vice president for Students Affairs Dr Khalid al-Khanji, CENG dean Dr Khalifa al-Khalifa, associate dean for Academic Affairs Prof Abdelmagid Hammuda, associate dean for development and industrial Relations Dr Saud Ghani, and acting associate dean for research and graduate studies Prof Abbes Amira, among others were present on the occasion.
Dr al-Mulla briefed the audience on his personal experience in choosing engineering as a profession.
He said: “Today’s objective is to increase students awareness and understanding of engineering, to encourage the interest of young people and to generate enthusiasm for the future of engineering, as this of course is vital if we want to attract young people into the oil and gas industry.
“I believe this will be achieved through the dedication and hard work of the team at CENG,” he told his audience.
