The Fire Station: Artists in Residence on Saturday held a workshop hosted by resident artist Zoe Hawke. It offered students and adults an introduction to the materials and techniques used in ‘gouache’ painting, a type of painting that is centuries old and similar to watercolour but modified to make it opaque. During the workshop, participants learned how to mix colour, apply paint and depict light and shadow. ‘Gouache’ painting is a unique medium that produces, vibrant, luminous works of art. The workshop was part of the Fire Station’s aim to spread creativity across the community and inspire an indigenous culture of creativity and innovation, according to a press statement from Qatar Museums.
