The second International Scientific Conference on Social Responsibility was inaugurated  at the Qatar National Convention Centre yesterday. 
The conference is being held under the auspices of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani. With “Security a Social Responsibility” as its theme, the event has been organised by Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation and Al Faisal Centre for Community Responsibility.
The opening session was attended by HE the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs HE Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi, founder and chairman of Al Faisal Without Borders Foundation HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, Director-General of Public Security Staff Major General Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi and GCC assistant secretary-general for security Brigadier-General Hazza’ Mubarak al-Hajri, according to a press statement from the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
The three-day conference aims to raise community awareness on the importance of security as a collective responsibility between individuals and the state. More than 45 researchers from 18 Arab, Gulf and European countries are participating in the conference to discuss all aspects of the concept of community security. An exhibition is being held on the sidelines with the participation of some 45 institutions from across the region, including Qatar’s MoI, platinum sponsor of the conference.
While speaking at the opening, HE Sheikh Faisal said since the launch of the Qatar National Vision 2030 initiative, the country has been striving to serve it as a clear road map for its future, capable of achieving sustainable development. He stressed that Qatar National Vision 2030 has become an integral part of the vision of the Al Faisal Foundation through a series of programmes in the field of social responsibility.
“The second scientific conference comes to emphasise our commitment to serve and develop the society and contribute to the development of a structured framework in line with the goals of Al Faisal Centre for Community Responsibility and Qatar National Vision 2030,” it was observed.
The GCC assistant secretary-general for security said the conference drew importance from its theme of community responsibility, which essentially means that security is a shared responsibility between security forces and members of the community.
He said the concept of the community police is one of the basic pillars of the MoI’s strategy, adding that the security forces are an integral part of the society.
