Muaither ended their QSL campaign on a high, comprehensively defeating Al Ahli 4-0 yesterday evening. Three goals in the first half all but settled the tie in favour of the already relegated side as Muaither striker N’Guessan Yessoh, on loan from Al Ahli, grabbed a brace.
Phillipe Birol’s side started the game on the front foot, and made a dream start to the match in the third minute. Minori Sato was picked out by strike partner Ahmed Yasin with a tidy pass in the box and the Japanese striker calmly lashed the ball into the back of the net to give his side an early lead.
Eleven minutes later, Muaither doubled their lead through on loan striker Yessoh. The Ivorian attacker surged past his marker and planted the ball past a hapless Amer al-Dossari in the Ahli goal.
Muaither looked comfortably the best side and on the 24th minute all but secured the three points through Ahmed Yasin who capitalised from a dropped ball from keeper al-Dossari to head in from yards out to give Muaither a three goal cushion.
Yessoh grabbed his second of the game and seventh of the season at the start of the second half. Ahmed Yasin swung in a dangerous cross and the big Ivorian headed in from close range to give Muaither their fourth goal.
Al Ahli pushed in the second half, but were denied by the resolute back-line of Muaither. The game finished 4-0 in favour of Philipe Birol’s side.
Meanwhile, Al Sailiya beat bottom of the table Al Wakrah at the Al Arabi Stadium 3-1. Al Wakrah, who have had a torrid season and who finish the season rock bottom, failed to grab a consolation win and they’ll head into the Qatar Gas League on the back of yet another defeat.
Al Sailiya will be hoping to improve on an up and down season next year while Al Wakrah will be hoping to bounce straight back up from the Qatar Gas League.
Lekhwiya aim to finish with victory

Having won the Qatar Stars League with one match to spare, Lekhwiya will be looking forward to round off the tournament in style when they take on Al Shahania in the 26th and final round today.
Their fifth QSL title was confirmed when they beat Al Ahli last week, sparing them the anxiety of a tense final day with Al Sadd snapping at their heels.
But with Al Sadd finishing second, Lekhwiya can afford to relax a bit and celebrate to their heart’s content when they are awarded the Falcon Shield today at the Abdulla bin Khalifa Stadium, their home ground. Their key players will be also rested for the clash.
“We have reached our target of being the champions, but this game is important as we want to end the season on a high. We will be giving opportunity to other players with important games ahead in the domestic cups and the Asian Champions League,” coach Djamel Belmadi said.
Belmadi again praised his Korean star Nam Tae-hee for scoring the vital goal against Al Ahli.
“It’s apt that Nam Tae-hee scored the winning goal. He is a key figure in Lekhwiya’s history and has been one of our most consistent players this campaign,” added the Algerian coach when asked about the last minute winner against Al Ahli.
This will be the last game in the league for Lekhwiya ahead of their proposed merger with El Jaish. However, Belmadi is not thinking about what the merger entails.
“I haven’t thought about it to be honest. The players and myself are focused on the end of the season. As far as the merger is concerned this is for the team management to discuss, not me.”
Meanwhile, Al Shahania coach Igor Stimac was thinking of his team’s relegation playoff with Qatar Sports Club more than his team’s match against Lekhwiya today.
“It’s a very good decision by the authorities to allow Al Shahania take on Qatar SC in the relegation playoff and I would like to thank them for making this decision.”
“We have a final game against the new champions Lekhwiya, I am expecting them to rest players and I am doing the same as we have to focus on the relegation playoff. This is a good opportunity for my squad to show what they can do and stake their claim for the Qatar SC game,” noted Croatian Stimac.
Stimac added that he is expecting an exciting game against the new QSL champions.
“I am very excited for this game, for my young players. They have been training well recently and I am interested to see how they will come together and work in this game as they are the future of Al Shahania and the future of Qatari football.”
