There could be some respite in store from the ongoing warm spell as the Qatar Met department has said temperatures are expected to return to their normal levels on Sunday (April 16) due to the influence of northerly winds.

Doha and other parts of the country have been experiencing 'above average' temperatures of 40C or higher over the past few days, prompting the weather office to advise people to drink plenty of liquids and avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

The Met department tweeted that while high temperatures are expected to continue for the next two days, the mercury level is likely to “return to the normal range” on Sunday as the winds turn northerly.

A maximum temperature of 41C has been forecast for Friday in Abu Samra, while in Doha it will be 40C. The minimum, on the other hand, will range from 24C in Al Khor, Dukhan and Abu Samra to 27C in Doha.

Thursday, a maximum temperature of 40C was recorded in Sheehaniya, Abu Samra, Batna, Karana, Jumayliya and Ghuwairiya, 39C in Al Rayyan and Turayna, and 38C in Doha (airport area). The minimum, meanwhile, ranged from 22C in Dukhan to 26C in the Doha airport area, Al Rayyan, Wakrah and Mesaieed.

The detailed forecast for Friday also says it will be hazy in some places in the early hours of the day, followed by hot conditions during the daytime and slight dust in certain areas.

Hazy conditions are also expected to prevail in offshore areas along with some clouds.
