In the first match, Qatar Sports Club established early control took a handy 38-29 lead after the second quarter.
But Al Arabi began asserting themselves gradually to score 29 points in the third, while at the same time restricting Qatar Sports Club to just 17.
That gave them the momentum to go for the kill which they did with some degree of comfort in the end, eventually winning by a five-point margin
Adamu Saaka was the star for Al Arabi with 32 points with a 47.62 field goal conversion rate, while Souleye Ndour had 23 and Osaro Adako 15.
Ibou Sarr excelled for Qatar Sports Club with 26 points while Ibrahim Giama had 16 and Edward Justice 11.
Strangely enough, Al Arabi failed to score a single point from turnovers while Qatar Sports Club accounted for 18 in that department. Al Arabi were also marginally ahead in points from second chances, scoring 18, while Qatar Sports Club had 14.
The second match saw Qatar Cup champions Al Gharafa lead throughout for a comfortable win with Sammy Monroe top-scoring with 20. Michael Taylor with 17 points and nine assists and Hassino Ndoye with16 points were the others who excelled for the winners.
Al Gharafa scored 22 points from turnovers against Al Khor’s 11. Their substitutes also made decent contributions, coming off the bench to score 30 points against Al Khor’s mere six.
The next round of matches will be played on Saturday.
